Prep is the first year of school and provides the foundation for your child's education. It is a full-time program and children attend from 8:45am-3pm.
Children must be 5 by 30th June in the year they enrol. To determine when your child can commence their prep year, use the
prep ready reckoner calculator.
Early Entry to Prep
Children whose birthday falls in the month of July, or who have previously enrolled in a school in another state or country, may be able to commence Prep early, if they are assessed by the school principal as being ready for school.
The early-entry-prep-parent-information.pdf, 80KB) information can be found here.
You must complete an application form and receive a decision from the Principal prior to completing the school's enrolment form.
Starting/Transitioning to School
Each year Darling Heights SS has a Prep Information evening held at the end of Term 3. This session will explain aspects of the Prep program and provide hints for a successful transition to Prep. Throughout Term 4, students will be invited to small group sessions. In the last week of Term 4, a "Get Set for Prep" morning program will be organised for your enrolled child to experience the Prep setting.
